A studio built around you
The move gave me the chance to create a fitness studio where you can focus entirely on yourself and your progress. No waiting for equipment. No pressure for floor space. No interruptions. Just coaching, movement and the freedom to train the way you like.
A truly private personal training studio in Poole lets you move freely, explore what your body can do and train without feeling rushed, watched or in the way. You won’t know how good that feels until you try it. Because I look at movement differently to a lot of trainers, having the space to watch how someone moves and reacts is a big part of the coaching.
Who Ocean Fitness is for
Most of my clients aren’t trying to become athletes. They’re trying to keep what they’ve worked hard to build. Their strength, their confidence and their independence. They want to keep playing golf, keep travelling, keep lifting grandchildren, keep walking the Purbecks and keep being the person others depend on.
The studio suits people over 40 around Poole who want to stay active and carry on enjoying the things that matter to them. One of my clients summed up the goal rather nicely. She called it “attain and sustain”. Most people are capable of more than they realise, but attaining strength, confidence and capability is only half the job. The other half is keeping it. There’s not much value in getting stronger at 55 if you’ve lost it again by 60.
What stays the same
The method, attitude and dedication haven’t changed in more than 20 years. The knowledge and experience have grown, but the focus hasn’t. My old school motto was Semper Eadem, always the same. The same care. The same attention. The same commitment to helping you move better, feel stronger and enjoy what your body is capable of.
What’s different now
One of the biggest changes I’m bringing to Ocean Fitness is that every new client starts with a movement screen. You can only know what you need to do once you understand what you’re already doing. Most people don’t lose confidence in their body overnight. More often it’s a series of small changes that build up over time. A little less balance. A little less confidence. A little less movement than there once was. I’d rather spot those things early and do something about them.
I’m also bringing Titleist Performance Institute screening and golf fitness to Ocean Fitness, so there’s now TPI in Poole as well. If your body can’t get into the positions your golf coach is asking for, progress can be frustratingly slow. Understanding how your body shapes your swing helps us work out what’s helping and what’s holding you back.
The studio at the back
Having taken on both studios at 1 Victoria Road, I wanted another good trainer to share the space. The studio at the back has been taken over by Rich O’Connor, a hugely experienced trainer with a wealth of knowledge and the equipment to match. You can find him at @theengineroompoole. I’m looking forward to having him here.

Frequently asked questions
Is Ocean Fitness Poole a private studio?
Yes. Ocean Fitness is a private personal training studio in Poole. You train without waiting for equipment, without pressure for floor space and without interruptions. It’s just you, your coach and the space to train the way you like.
Do I need to be fit before I start?
No. You don’t need to be fit, lean or experienced to start. Every new client begins with a movement screen, so we understand what you’re already doing, and then we build from there at a pace that suits you.
What is a movement screen?
A movement screen is a simple assessment of how you move. It shows me where you’re strong, where you’re a little less steady and what we should work on first. You can only know what to do once you understand what you’re already doing.
Do you offer golf fitness in Poole?
Yes. I offer golf fitness and Titleist Performance Institute (TPI) screening in Poole. If your body can’t get into the positions your golf coach is asking for, progress is slow. We look at how your body shapes your swing and train accordingly.
